What is Bowenwork?

Bowenwork is a very effective bodywork therapy, where gentle moves are performed over your loose fitting lightweight clothing on muscles, tendons, joints or other soft tissue structures, stimulating the nervous system to reset and heal.  This series of moves sends powerful neurological impulses to the brain.  Through fascia (aka connective tissue), the body has the ability to signal the brain with what is stuck in the tissue area as it is "moved."  The brain processes the information given, and, within about two minutes, begins to send healing messages and a healing process, on various structural and energetic levels, back to the tissues, thus healing has begun.

By combining moves, the body can either benefit as a whole, or target a specific problem.  Bowenwork however does affect all systems within the body and initiates change at a cellular level.

Who do we treat?

Bowenwork is appropriate for newborns to the elderly, and even expecting mothers.  Results can be remarkable even from the first session.

What to expect during and after your session-

After discussing a brief health history and the reasons for your visit, we will select the best course of treatment for that day.

Wear or bring light-weight, loose fitting clothing that your practitioner can work through.

After each series of moves, the practitioner will leave the room to allow  your body time to respond (A typical pause is two minutes).

Following treatment some changes may be noticeable right away, such as reduced pain, greater range of motion and a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.

You may notice changes over the next several days as your body continues the process that began during your session.  Sound sleep and increased energy are commonly reported.  It is important to stay hydrated during this time.

If your practitioner assigns "homework" of gentle Bowenwork exercises, do them daily, starting the day after your session.  This is an essential part of your care and will improve your results.

"Structure governs function, function determines structure."
