Drink plenty of water, before and after a session, to stay well hydrated and help the healing process.
Wear or bring light-weight, loose-fitting clothing that your practitioner can work through. Please do not wear tight slippery yoga wear or heavy jeans.
Your practitioner will discuss your health history and ask about reasons for your visit so as to select the best course of treatment for that day.
A session consists of a series of gentle but precise moves, each at a specific site on the body, done through your light-weight clothing or on the skin. A session usually lasts about 45 minutes to an hour and is performed with the client lying on a comfortable bodywork table.
After each series of Bowen moves, there is an important pause to allow the body to respond to new information. It is during this pause that the body begins to make changes. This process is repeated until the session is finished. There is no forceful manipulation, just a light cross-fiber maneuvering over muscles, tendons, or fascia, pleasant to the recipient. This creates a deep sense of relaxation. The restorative process begins once the body is relaxed, and continues for days after each treatment.
Bowenwork is gentle and effective, substantial relief is frequently attained after a single session, certainly after a few sessions. To restore the body’s own healing process, clients may start with three or four consecutive sessions, about a week apart, for optimal results.
Bowenwork balances the physical, mental and emotional planes. Its rejuvenating effect empowers the quality of our lives. Bowenwork makes a positive, healthy impact by providing more energy and an overall sense of well being. The results are long-lasting and profound, usually unless there is a re-injury.
Bowenwork’s input to the nervous system is very subtle, and the body responds over time. For that reason, it is necessary to refrain from other modalities (massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy, even hot tubs, hot or cold packs, and hot showers) after your Bowenwork session, as this seems to neutralize the changes the body is trying to accomplish. You also want to avoid any heavy exercise on the day of your session and try not to sit longer than 30 minutes at a time.

You may notice changes over the next several days as your body continues the process that began during your session. Remember your body is resetting sometimes years of displacement. Sound sleep and increased energy are commonly reported. It is very important to stay hydrated during this time. An excellent mineral ratio of water such as Fiji is recommended.
If you are assigned "homework" of gentle Bowenwork exercises, do them daily, starting the day after your session. This is an essential part of your care (called brain mapping) and will improve your results.
